I Don't Not Hate Double Negatives

It's your girl back at it again with another post.

This post is going to mainly focus on my deep hatred for double negatives and why they should never exist in the first place. To start this off I hope y'all enjoy my silly meme I found about double negatives.

In many songs, movies, and literature, the use of double negatives has always been to basically cancel out each other to make the sentence positive. For example, when referring to the sentence: I dont want nothing. The sentence is saying that you do not want nothing meaning that you do want something.

In many other languages the use of double negatives is extremely common and even natural to express negation. The difference with double negatives in other languages is that instead of it being used to make a sentence positive; it is used to strengthen the negation. this structure is called negative concord. Some languages that use negative concord include Russian, Spanish, French, Hebrew, and Italian. One example of this is in the Spanish language "No vi a nadie" which translates to I did no see nobody, however it means that I did not see anybody when used. English is one of the very few languages that use double negative for positive meanings.

The cancelling of double negatives is also a newer concept in the history of English as well. It was in the 18th century that this idea was made popular to align with more Latin based logic.

If I'm being honest even with double negatives, when it is used in speaking most people just understand what is being said anyways. For example if i were to say, "I don't know nothing" most people would be able to understand that I mean "I know nothing". The addition of more words just make it more confusing. Yes, double negatives work but they are just stupid.
